The Biggest Cosmetic Surgery Trends Today
When you think of cosmetic surgery, do you think of getting rid of that belly pooch or those love handles? Well, you might be surprised to learn that cosmetic surgery trends today are actually introducing a bit more fat to the body.
There are drugs like Kybella which is injected and designed to get rid of the double chin. But a rising number of doctors agree on one thing: women want smaller labia, chubbier faces and bigger butts a la Kim Kardashian. Even though breast augmentation and liposuction still remain the most popular procedures, breakthroughs in science have allowed for less well-known procedures to become more popular nowadays—though they will also be taken in account in the article.
In 2014, the total number of butt lift procedures done was 21,446, according to a survey answered by some 786 dermatologists, plastic surgeons and otolaryngologists. That surprising number of butt lifts was an 86% rise than the previous year. Getting a big butt is not the only priority, but a pair of shapely bums.
Aside from big butts, women also want breast revisions and they are up by 30.4%. As women get older, their breasts tend to sag and they may need to get their breasts done. Or old implants may need a replacement and some women also want to change from saline implants to silicone-gel implants.
One of the next cosmetic surgery trends to rise is labiaplasty, which saw a 49% increase in 2010. Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure done to repair or reduce the size of the labia minora, or the inner lips of the female genitalia. 7,535 labiaplasty procedures were done in 2014, according to the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Society.
And in the very near future, cosmetic surgery trends will involve not getting rid of the fat but putting fat into the body. As people grow old, people lose volume around the face. As it becomes more prominent, they become worried it will make them look older and saggy. So in order to put back that volume lost, cosmetic surgeons would place in fat around saggy parts, aside from a face-lift. The procedure is called fat-grafting. Doctors have learned that fat-grafting rearranges the elastic fibers of the skin, making the patient look and feel younger.
But still, many women want to get rid of excess fat. In 2014, liposuction was at the top for most number of procedures done. Non-surgical fat removal procedures, like VASERShape and CoolSculpting also rose by 42.7%.
Other cosmetic surgery trends are breast reconstruction and eyebrow transplants. This restores the breasts almost normal appearance, size and shape after a mastectomy or lumpectomy. There was 7% increase in breast reconstruction procedures, with more than 102,200 of those were done in 2014.
Are you jealous of Cara Delevingne’s eyebrows? Now you can have them for your own but you can also draw your own arch. The hairs will come from a four-inch wide patch of scalp the doctors will remove from you’re the back of your head.
The biggest shift in cosmetic surgery trends? Men nowadays are also going under the knife, not just women. Male-focused procedures like male breast reduction and pectoral implants had seen rising increases since the year 2000.
